Bretton Woods Conference Meeting RoomJoin the Friends of Madison Library for a presentation by Carl Lindblade, “A Hotel Goes to Peace, Not War: The Story of the Mount Washington Hotel and the International Monetary Conference at Bretton Woods,” on Thursday, August 22 at 7 pm in the John F. Chick Room at the Madison Library.

The presentation will cover the 1944 International Monetary Conference at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, NH. In preparation for the conference, the resort, which had been closed because of the war, was quickly reopened, hastily staffed and redecorated. Much of the economic turmoil of today is related to the topics at Bretton Woods: The World Bank, The International Monetary fund, and currency stabilization.

Carl Lindblade is currently a lecturer in the hospitality management department at the University of New Hampshire. Lindblade is a member of the UNH Speakers Bureau, an outreach service of the University.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will follow the presentation.
