1b1vwidgetWe enjoyed a wonderful event in North Conway on October 30 with Amy Belding Brown, author of Flight of the Sparrow, this year’s 1 Book 1 Valley community read. The Madison Library’s book group had a good, free-range discussion of this book on October 28, and reports from other local libraries are that they did, too.

The Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth is hosting one more 1 Book 1 Valley event, one that delves into the history of Native Americans in New England before, during, and after the period covered in Amy Belding Brown’s novel. On November 12, at 7 pm, Friends of Cook Memorial Library will host David Stewart-Smith, who will present the NH Humanities Council program “Native American History of New Hampshire: Alliance and Survival, circa 1400-1700.” Stewart-Smith will discuss the time that began with English and French exploration, the Pennacook Alliance and the leader Passaconaway, up to the time of King Philip’s War. This event is free and open to the public.
