The Madison Library has a wonderful group of volunteers, some of whom have been serving for years, and we welcome new volunteers. Volunteers tasks vary, from shelving books to helping with special projects. Teen volunteers age 14 and older are welcome. Contact the library if you are interested in volunteering.
Current volunteer opportunities:
- Preservation photocopier: Make photocopies of historical records on acid-free paper. You will need to know how to use, load, and reset a copier, or feel you could learn how. Short-term commitment.
- Scanning for Local History Project: We are partnering with UNH Library to scan Madison’s old town reports. UNH will include them in their NH Cities & Towns section of their Digital Collections.
- Newspaper archivist: Read, find, make copies and file stories and obituaries from local newspapers that relate to the town of Madison. Ongoing project, one or two hours every other week, can be done at the library or at home.
- Indexer: Help index Madison’s vital statistics for an online database. This index will be a valuable tool for genealogists. You can set your own schedule.
- Outreach delivery: Volunteers to deliver library books and other materials to shut-ins and/or day care facilities. Every other week.
- After School Program helper: Help with weekly children’s programs. Background check required.
- Computer geek: Share what you know, some computer users need help with basic tasks like opening email attachments, formatting Word documents, printing and saving files, and navigating the internet. Set your own schedule and time commitment.
