As those of you who come to the library know, our music CD collection is small but fairly well-balanced. Our budget dedicated for recorded music is non-existent and what we do purchase is shaved off of the A-V budget and supplemented (mostly) by what we take in for fines. Here’s what’s on the list so far:

  • Telemann: Makus Passion 1755 (We have no Telemann on CD)
  • Stax Profiles: Staple Singers (Stax has several of this Profiles series and they are reasonably priced, so I may also order the Otis Redding one.)
  • Steppin’ in the Boiler House by Mark Schatz (Bluegrass with clawhammer banjo)
  • Six Strings North of the Border vol. 3 (Acoustic strings from Canadian artists)
  • Reintarnation: k.d. lang (the country stuff remastered and reissued)
  • Let Love In: the Goo Goo Dolls (Sheryl Crows’s new CD went out a lot, so there’s a demand for contemporary pop.)

Here’s what I’m still thinking over:

  • Ska Bonanza: the Studio One Ska Years
  • The Rough Guide to Bhangra Dance (Remember that catchy dance music in Bend It Like Beckham?)

If you have a suggestion of something essential for our collection, let me know by mid-July. Collection development criteria require: a good review (I like CD hotlist, but if somebody gets Billboard magazine and wants to share, please do), something that’s likely to be of lasting value/importance, something that’s filling a gap in our collection, something that our library users will check out. Contact info is at the right.
