One other program this summer is a Treasure Map game for kids 7 to 12. This is a six-week scavenger-hunt all around Madison. (The map at left is the first one of six.) There are no things to bring back to the library, just information found at the various locations around town. This game’s main purpose is fun, but if your child participates, he or she (and maybe you, too) will also learn some new things about town, find some interesting locations to explore, and work on learning skills. The game encourages the children to read in order to find information and writing down the information accurately. Hopefully the child will also begin to relate locations on a map with places they know. On July 19th at 1 pm, we have another map project–a craft program where the children will create their own treasure maps.
