Adult fiction: Blue Shoes and Happiness, the next in the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith; Promise Me, a thriller by Harlan Coben; the magical Silver Bough by Lisa Tuttle; The Tooth of Time by Sue Henry, a mystery featuring Winnebago-driving woman-of-a-certain-age Maxie McNabb and her mini-dachshund Stretch.
Adult nonfiction: American Theocracy: the Peril and Politics of Radical Religion, Oil, and Borrowed Money in the 21st Century by Kevin Phillips; The Omnivore’s Dilemma: a Natural History of Four Meals by Michael Pollan; My Life with the Saints by James Martin, SJ; Soccerhead: an Accidental Journey into the Heart of the American Game by Jim Haner; Eat, Pray, Love (in audio) by Elizabeth Gilbert, who describes a year of self-discovery; and Breakfast in the Bathtub, a book of humorous poems and essays by Fred Samuels and Joan Snow Duncanson (who will be featured authors at the FOML’s book and author luncheon in August.)
Children’s: Loon Chase, set on our own Silver Lake, by summer resident Jean Heilprin Diehl (who will visit the library with Cathie Gregg for a program on loons in August); Dreamer, a easy reader based on the recent movie; and Henry and Mudge and the Great Grandpas by Cynthia Rylant, winner of this year’s Theodor Seuss Geisel award.
YA: Queen Bee, a graphic novel by Chynna Clugston.
