New music this week, all on CD:

  • Thelonius Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall, recorded November 29, 1957. Tickets for this event ranged from $2 to $3.95 and also on the bill were Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Chet Baker, and Sonny Rollins. Must have been quite a show.
  • Bill Evans: the Complete Village Vanguard Recordings, 1961, a 3- CD set.
  • Best of Bowie Ziggy Stardust through 2002.
  • Choral Masterpieces from Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus
  • Carmina Burana, a”secular cantata,” this music is instantly recognizable because it’s used in so many movies. The piece has an interesting history, be sure to read the liner notes.
  • Spanish Guitar Music Malaguenas, canciones, y danzas.
New music, something for most
