Barak Obama, speaking at the ALA convention in Chicago on Saturday, said “literacy is the most basic currency of the information economy that we live in today.” He went on to describe that, to be successful, we all need to expand our reading and comprehension skills to keep up with and process the amount of information thrown at us on a daily basis and (you know this was headed here) the important role libraries and librarians will play in providing access and navigation guidance to this information. Another cool quote from his speech: “Truth is not about who yells the loudest, but who has the right information.” Thanks to Andrea Mercado at PLA blog.
