When we started this collection of paperback fiction and nonfiction specifically for high school age readers, we called it “backpack friendly.” Now that backpacks are banned from Kennett, we’ll have to come up with a new name. Regardless, this collection of portable books won’t add much weight to your day whether in a pack or in an armful of stuff. Titles include Prom by Laurie Halse Anderson (author of Speak), This Boy’s Life by Tobias Wolff, The Stand by Stephen King (many fans claim this is his best), and Valerie Zenatti’s When I Was a Soldier, about her experience in the Israeli army as a young woman.
