The Friends of Madison Library have organized an amazing E.E. Cummings Weekend, featuring a tour of eight sites around Silver Lake and Madison including inside Cummings’ summer home at Joy Farm.
This 2-day event will take place beginning on Friday, July 10 at 7 pm at the Madison Elementary School with a “nonlecture” of E.E. Cummings’ letters, poetry, music and art. Saturday, July 11 from 10 am to 3 pm, take a self-guided tour of Joy Farm and seven other locations, including the Madison Historical Society where Dr. Steven Katz, MD will present a short talk on Cummings’art and show images of his local paintings.
Just added to the Saturday schedule is a preview of a new documentary by Emmy winning film producer Andrea Melville titled the vOice of your eyEs-the poetry AND paintings of E.E. Cummings.
To participate, you need a ticket, and tickets can be purchased at the library or can be ordered by mail to FOML-Cummings at PO Box 240, Madison, NH 03849. Tickets cost $20 per person.
In addition to the tour, artists from the Mount Washington Valley Art Association have been creating artwork featuring E. E. Cummings sites in Silver Lake and Madison. These paintings, photos and more will be displayed in the library’s Chick Room beginning July 9. A silent auction will be held for the artwork, and bids can be made during library hours through August 7.
Bag lunches and water will be available for tour participants to purchase at the library on Saturday, July 11.
