We have paper copies of the 2013 Madison Old Home Week schedule here at the library, come pick one up soon. The OHW committee and other local organizations have done a great job of putting together a great lineup of events, something for everyone.

Here are the library-sponsored events and links to more information about them:

Old Home Week Photo Contest: now a digital-only show. Theme is “Madison at Work and Play” and entry deadline is July 31. Visit the show at the library between August 5 and 10.

Friends of Madison Library Book Sale: Last day to bring in donations for the sale is Saturday, July 27 (by 1 pm, when the library closes.) Sale will have extended hours this year: Friday, August 2 from noon to 6 pm, and Saturday, August 3 from 9 am to 3 pm. Lots of great books this year, and a huge selection of cookbooks.

Madison Trebuchet Challenge: the Competition: Saturday, August 3 at 3 pm at Burke Field. We’ll be at the end of the ballfield by the Town Office for a  contest between groups who built their own trebuchets after attending workshops with Carroll County UNH Cooperative Extension 4-H Science Educator Claes Thelemarck. This is Madison’s own Maker Faire! Spectators, please watch from specified spectator area for safety, we’ll be launching baseballs.

“Welcome Home, New Hampshire” concert with Don Watson: Wednesday, August 7 at 7 pm in the library’s Chick Room. Songs about New Hampshire history include “Willey Slide” and “Hannah Dustin.” Donations welcome, CDs will be for sale.

Dig into Madison History: Wednesday, August 7 at 3:30 pm. Our weekly program for children for our “Dig into Reading” Summer Reading Program will have a local focus this week, and we’re inviting all ages to attend. We’ll pull out local history items that are normally locked up in our vault and archives. Hear stories about local life in the 1920s and 1930s written by Madison High School students, read some of Alice Ward’s town columns from the 1970s, browse through old photographs, learn to sing the “Silver Lake Waltz Song” by Ethan W. Pearson.
