On Saturday, the 2009 kids’, teens’ and adults’ summer reading programs finished up with a party, complete with music, cake, and prizes. Thirty-nine participants together read 528 books this summer. Children who completed the program by handing in their reading logs on time each earned a pass to Story Land. The children who read the most books in their reading levels also won a summer reading T-shirt. Those children were Ella Dunker-Bendigo, Sierra Parsons, and–tied in their reading level–Madison Brown and Kaeli Twigg-Smith. The teen who read the most books was Becca Frazel, and Hazel Varella won the adult category by reading and reviewing 30 books.
Prizes were donated by local businesses Story Land, Yankee Smokehouse, White Mountain Hotel, and Settlers’ Green Outlet Village. Sponsors for prizes included Julie Ballance, Ann Hamilton, Tom Reinfuss, Leonora Southwick, Eleanor and Bruce Jones, Marcie Shackford, Mary Cronin, Peg Reinfuss, Lynn Brown, Catalina and Paul Kirsch, and Anne Filson. Volunteers who helped with weekly programs were Becca Frazel, Eleanor Jones, Emily Gaskill, Karyl Hayes, and Diane Clark.
