Don’t forget Madison’s Memorial Day parade at 9 am, starting at the Madison Church, moving to the Gilman Cemetery on East Madison Road where veterans’ graves are decorated, then back up East Madison Road to the Madison Historical Society building where the flag is raised. For those who are up early, there is also a ceremony at the Lyman Cemetery on High Street at 8 am. Local veterans, scout troops, and Kennett High School’s marching band are among the marchers. This picture, from 2004, shows Madison Selectman Michael Brooks raising the flag in front of the Madison Historical Society as veterans Jack Alexander and Robert Dannenberg look on along with some local Cub Scouts. Michael Brooks is currently serving in Iraq and this Memorial Day will find Madison residents thinking of him and all those who have served and are serving in the armed forces.
