New books for September

New this week, three by well-known favorite authors: Sweetwater Creek by Anne Rivers Siddons; The Painted Drum by Louise Erdrich; and My Detachment by Tracy Kidder, a examination of his time in Vietnam. Also new are Widow of the South by Robert Hicks, a first novel that’s been highly anticipated by booksellers and librarians; the thriller Panic by Jeff Abbott in hardcover and audio; and journalist Andrea Mitchell’s Talking Back . . . to Presidents, Dictators, and Assorted Scoundrels.
