A new ordinance permitting consumption of alcohol (by those over 21 and from non-glass containers) on the town’s ballfield and beaches has made big-time news. “NH town is drinking in peace,” says Sunday’s Boston Globe, and as a casual observer at last week’s Old Home Week events, “peace” is an apt adjective. The Old Home Week Committee should, as always, be commended for providing a week of fun, old-time, relaxing (for those not on the committee) events that appealed to all ages, from toddlers to nonagenarians. Resident voters should expect the drinking ordinance to be discussed at length at next March’s town meeting.
