Expiration of library provisions of USAPA

The USAPA (“Patriot Act”) has some provisions that are scheduled to expire soon. The section 215 library provision is one of these. Supporters of its demise include Congressman Bernie Saunders of Vermont. Librarians have been keeping a close eye on this legislation as it affects the government’s right to access to your library records. This issue is not mentioned prominently on any of the websites for New Hampshire legislators Judd Gregg, Charles Bass, Jeb Bradley, or John Sununu, but the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) issue has really become this summer’s priority for these Members of Congress.
