I’m just back from the New Hampshire Libraries’ Conference, where there were some excellent speakers who also are writers from here in New Hampshire. I was able to purchase some of their work for the library. Look for Willem Lange’s Okay, Let’s Try It Again, which has pieces he wrote for the Valley News in Lebanon, NH and for Vermont Public Radio. Another by Mr. Lange is John and Tom, a children’s book written for the Vermont Folklife Center, a true story about a boy rescued by his horse. Rebecca Rule is a popular speaker, writer, and teacher in New Hampshire; I’ve added her book of stories, The Best Revenge, and a book on writing she wrote with Susan Wheeler, True Stories: Guides for Writing from Your Life. Sy Montgomery is a New Hampshire writer who travels all over the world writing about scientists and the work they do. The Tarantula Scientist follows Sam Marshall as he studies tarantulas in French Guiana. What’s cool about this book is that it’s as much about the scientist as the spiders, which you hardly ever see in kids’ books.
