John Barrett at the State Library points out a post on the ALA Office of Intellectual Freedom’s blog about testimony given by a Connecticut librarian before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the Constitution. The librarian, George Christian, was served with a National Security Letter in 2005 along with three other librarians. While federal government hearings may seem a long way from the day-to-day comings-and-goings at a small town library, it certainly is important to be aware of national issues and how they can affect and sometimes conflict with local decisions and policy.
