NNHLC has contracted with ByWater Solutions to support and host Koha, an open-source integrated library system (ILS), i.e., library management software and shared catalog. Koha was implemented in June 2013. ByWater hosts the system on mirrored, frequently backed-up off-site servers, provides ongoing technical support, manages upgrades to the software, and provides training for library staff.
Updating to Koha has improved access for borrowers to their accounts (including borrowing history, holds, wish lists, etc.) and to library materials of all kinds, including e-materials. Sharing a catalog has made sharing resources between the three libraries easier, and has given library patrons from all three towns access to all three libraries’ collections. Koha also has given staff more control over the data and much better reporting features. In continual development by users throughout the world, Koha is well equipped to accommodate the rapid changes in library services and materials.
