Summer Reading Programs

The 2012 Summer Reading Program will kick off on June 20. Check back for details.

2011 Madison Library Summer Reading Program recap:

Thank you to this year’s participants! We had 28 children, 2 teens, and 9 adults complete the program, with a total of 45,569 minutes read by the kids  (more than 4 hours per week per child on average) plus 71 books read by the teens and adults.

In order to be eligible for prizes, all participants’ reading logs (for children) and book reviews (for teens and adults) were due at the library by the deadline, Thursday, August 4.

Read book reviews from this year’s program and last year’s program submitted by teen and adult participants.

Thanks to our business sponsors!

Thank you to Carol Felice and Sunny Macmillan for donating items for prizes.

How our program works:

Children’s program (for children ages 4 to 12):

  • Three reading levels: prereaders, beginning readers, and independent readers
  • Keep track of your reading on a reading log; this year, we’re tracking minutes read.
  • Check out books! Bring your reading log when you visit the library for fun stickers to help track your progress.
  • Read! If you read a book set in or about a different part of the world, you can enter a weekly prize drawing. Get details at the library.
  • Hand in your reading log by the deadline, Thursday, August 4.
  • Prizes will be awarded at our wrap-up party on Sunday, August 7.

Teens’ program:

  • Read any book, graphic novel, or audiobook. Read a book set in or about a different country and enter a weekly drawing for a small, fun prize.
  • Submit a brief book review online, or write your name and a short review on a review slip available at the library.
  • On July 12 and again on July 26, one teen reader review will be randomly drawn for a prize. If you win the first drawing, you won’t be eligible to win the second, but all of your reading will count towards the grand prize for the teen who reads the most books.
  • All reviews should be in by the deadline, Thursday, August 4.
  • We wrap-up with prizes and cake on Sunday, August 7.

Adults’ program:

Why let the kids have all the fun? We have some great prizes for adults, too.

  • Read any book or audiobook. Read a book translated from another language and enter a weekly drawing for a small, fun prize. We’ll have a list of recommended titles at the library.
  • Submit a brief book review online, or write your name and a short review on a review slip available at the library.
  • On July 12 and again on July 26, one adult reader review will be randomly drawn for a prize. If you win the first drawing, you won’t be eligible to win the second, but all of your reading will count towards the grand prize for the adult who reads the most books.
  • All reviews should be in by the deadline, Thursday, August 4.
  • We wrap-up with prizes and cake on Sunday, August 7.
