Join us on Thursday, February 4 at 7 PM for a Wordpress website workshop. Wordpress.com is a free and open-source tool perfect for someone wishing to create and maintain a Web presence for an organization or community group. Wordpress’s features include allowing for multiple users with varying levels of editing authority, integrating with Twitter and Flickr accounts, and giving the option of using a registered domain. Wordpress.com is Web-based, which means that users can access and update their sites from any computer or mobile device with an internet connection. Offering many customizable themes, Wordpress.com can be tailored to fit an organization’s identity. Local Web sites built using Wordpress.com include http://onebookonevalley.wordpress.com and http://madisontrails.wordpress.com.

The Wordpress Workshop will be led by Mary Cronin and will include a tour of the program followed by hands-on practice. Participants will take home a handout with instructions on using Wordpress.com and an invitation to return to the library for one-on-one follow-up training. This workshop is free, but space is limited. Call the Madison Library at 367-8545 to reserve a space.

(Yes, it is happening at the same time as the Madison School District’s deliberative session, but if you’re interested in this class, let us know so we can plan another one.)

These messages can be seen by checking the website, or individuals can sign up to receive your updates by IM or on their mobile phones. See twitter.com to find out more, and click on “watch the video,” it does a much better job of explaining this than I do!
