As summer gets under way, we’ll be expecting our computers to get a lot of use by visitors and summer residents. Here are some answers to commonly asked questions about using library computers:

Yes, we have wifi, or wireless internet. No, there is not a password, which your computer’s security system may or may not like. Wifi reaches into the parking lot, but please do not idle your engine to run your car’s air conditioner, there’s cool air and a warm welcome inside.

Yes, we have public computers: Three in the adult section of the library, and soon we’ll be adding a laptop for quick email/social network checks, plus a new children’s room computer for use by children 12 and younger. Please read our Computer Use Policy before using library computers.

Printing and faxing are both available for a fee: 15 cents per page to print, 50 cents per page to fax.

Join us on Thursday, February 4 at 7 PM for a Wordpress website workshop. Wordpress.com is a free and open-source tool perfect for someone wishing to create and maintain a Web presence for an organization or community group. Wordpress’s features include allowing for multiple users with varying levels of editing authority, integrating with Twitter and Flickr accounts, and giving the option of using a registered domain. Wordpress.com is Web-based, which means that users can access and update their sites from any computer or mobile device with an internet connection. Offering many customizable themes, Wordpress.com can be tailored to fit an organization’s identity. Local Web sites built using Wordpress.com include http://onebookonevalley.wordpress.com and http://madisontrails.wordpress.com.

The Wordpress Workshop will be led by Mary Cronin and will include a tour of the program followed by hands-on practice. Participants will take home a handout with instructions on using Wordpress.com and an invitation to return to the library for one-on-one follow-up training. This workshop is free, but space is limited. Call the Madison Library at 367-8545 to reserve a space.

(Yes, it is happening at the same time as the Madison School District’s deliberative session, but if you’re interested in this class, let us know so we can plan another one.)

Our server is not working, so our online catalog is not available. Sorry for any inconvenience. If you need help finding an item, please call or email. You can access our catalog on the statewide NHU-PAC catalog, but it will show all the libraries in NH that have what you search for, not just the Madison Library. There is a way to limit results to Madison Library items only using advanced search, call for instructions.

UPDATE: Our catalog is back up and running as of Thursday, October 30 at 5 pm.
