LizzieThe Madison Library will sponsor a New Hampshire Humanities Council program, “Lizzie Borden Took an Axe-Or Did She?,” a presentation by Professor Annette Holba, on Thursday, July 23 at 7 p.m. in the library’s John F. Chick Meeting Room.

In 1892 Lizzie Borden, a 32 year old single woman, was officially charged with the murder of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts. The events that followed the murder would stir the curiosity of people across the nation. Annette Holba reviews the facts of the case and explores the evidence that some experts suggest points to Lizzie’s guilt and others believe points to Lizzie’s innocence. Lizzie’s connections to New Hampshire are also discussed.

The New Hampshire Humanities Council nurtures the joy of learning and inspires community engagement by bringing life-enhancing ideas from the humanities to the people of New Hampshire.  Learn more about the Council at www.nhhc.org.

This event is free and open to the public. The program will take place in the library’s John F. Chick Meeting Room, and refreshments will be served following the presentation.
